Third Film Day

We are planning to film on the 22nd November as it is a Sunday and the day works for all of us. We hope for this to be the final one. However, we have a lot to still put in which will create the narrative as at the moment we think it lacks an effective storyline. We are going to film more close ups in Camden in the same places to make it look continuous. We will then go to film the bus scene where the bus leaves her behind as well as the other high street scenes for example the off license. Lastly around 3 o clock we will set up for the car crash. We are filming the car crash in separate scenes so the taxi and the girl being hit will not be on the same day. We have chosen to do it like this because we want to have to result to editing to create the fast pace to make it look realistic. We will use my car for headlights to make the lighting be effective for the crash. We will have to do this quite quickly because it will start to get dark and we also need to film her in her ghost form with the camera in the same spot. We are going to try a find a less busy road to do this so it is easier to keep the camera in the same place as well as making it a low risk of actually being hit by a car. However, because this scene should be in a built up area where she gets hit we are going to use close up shots of her face, feet, the headlights and wides too.

The weather on this day will be sunny so it shouldn't be an issue with making it look continuous from the film day before.

We are going to start filming at around 11 o clock. We want to aim to film the crash at around 3:00 and finish at about 4:10. We will need to work out the lighting when we are there. If need be, we will film the same time the next day to make sure we get all the shots we need at the right lighting.

Tour Posters

We used the idea of duplicating Georgia to place her next to herself in multiple different colours as seen on a few of the posters. This came across very synthetic like and didn't give fans the right message. The tour poster we liked is 6 and 9 because they are very plain and still keep in with the pink and black theme we are aiming for. This also creates her to be the girl next door type which backs up her star image. There are variations where the photos have been placed against a white background and then a pink textured background. We found when having a white one again it is extremely synthetic and didn't keep in with our theme so we have chosen one that does.

We used Ariana Grande's tour poster as a template for ours as we wanted them to be similar in aesthetics as well as locations. We have done our tour in June as this is a time where the school year is nearly over so more people will be able to attend. We have also done it in spring because it will be hot, this will create the right atmosphere for fans to have the best time as well as because there will a lower chance of difficulties due to weather issues.

Album Cover

CD covers for the front are usually 12 cm by 12 cm. I changed my image so that it is 12 x 12 using photo shop and resizing the image to the normal album cover size shown in the screenshots below.

After completing this task, I figured out that i no longer like this album cover and prefer what was meant to be the back as the front. I feel that this new album cover has been scaled better and her face is more obvious for her first album which will attract sales.

I then constructed an album cover for the back cover using the original image as well as keeping in with the theme of the album cover. I then used another image of her for the inside as well as a plain white side as I though this would be effective as we don't want too many photos of her as we want the front and back to be the main photos. I really like the new album cover as I think it is eye catching which will attract sales and also represents her as the girl next door.

However, we found that we could not just leave the white side where the disk is blank so we came up with a photo collage of all different patterned backgrounds that would fit in with our theme.

Chosen Album Cover

Our favourite photos from the shoot of Georgia were these four below which we then decided would be featured in the album cover.

We decided our front album cover to be the bottom left photo as this is very conventional for an album cover. We are going to use Ellie Goulding mostly as inspiration as we have discovered that we need a plain background and not too busy. For this reason, we have chosen to back Georgia up to a grey background and layer a bokeh effect over this. This not only links to our music video with the use of the bokeh effects but also is used in a lot of album covers. We also made a slight change to the font as we think the hand writing font didn't work well with our album cover, we chose a thicker font like albums we have researched. I really like this album cover but think to improve the writing could be made bigger.

This is the final album cover. We have used a helvetica font and made her name central as this matches her image. The album title isn't in bold as we wanted to emphasise her name to the target audience as this is her first official release.

For our inside album cover we have chosen the top two photos. For the back of the album we have chosen the bottom right image.

Website

We did have a different website - http://luciestafford51.wix.com/georgiamay- but when getting feedback from our target audience, we were told our website wasn't interactive enough. Some parts also weren't appealing such as on the bio page there is an ugly shaped box. There is also too many colours going on. Lastly, there is not enough images of her, they are all from the same day. We felt we should make a new website because it doesn't give the fans enough about the artist.

Based on looking at fan websites and celebrities own websites we have taken characteristics that we think would best suit our artist. We have gone for a pink. black and white colour scheme which is a recurring theme through out our research e.g album cover.  Our website link is below. We have several tabs on the website and hyper links to social media accounts that Georgia May would have which will keep her involved with her fans so they can follow what she does for example twitter, instagram and tumblr which many artists have on their websites. There is also her debut video on there along with the song. The tour dates are shown on the website along with a whole section dedicated to Georgia May Merchandise which directly links to a website layed out like a shop which fans can access to follow the latest trends of Georgia May.

Account of Editing

We wanted to follow conventions of music videos by using theories by using this in our editing techniques as well as when we filmed.

When editing we wanted to keep a slow pace through out to show her day effectively, I did this by making the shots longer. This not only created the slow pace but also led up to the big event of her day (being killed by a car), also known as the new equilibrium. I decided to use the least amount of effects as possible as I wanted the music video to be very mundane. I also decided to bring in the idea of 'selfies' as I think that these are becoming a natural day to day thing for most people and thought it added to our music video as it makes her seem normal which can make the target audience relate to her. I chose to use the black and white effect along with the 'bokeh' to create her memories effectively to show not only a contrast between her day to day life and her memories of her day but also we slowed down each one to show that it is not normality. We tried to match as much of the lip syncing as possible as this is the main idea of the task and a convention of most music videos as state by Andrew Goodwin. We also tried our best to get the most varied shots in the music video by editing back and forth between close ups and wides.

Music Video Second Edit

I re edited the music video with new shots as i stated in my last analysis. I haven't re filmed yet but wanted to see what it looked like with more of a variety of shots. I used the crop tool to crop the shots to make them zoomed in however because I shot at 50 frames per second and forgot to focus the camera the shots are blurry, which is an improvement I will make in my third shoot. I also changed the song as it has been tuned and we removed the high harmony. Personally I think it sound extremely different and I prefer it.

Song Mixes

These are the three song mixes of Amy singing. I prefer the middle one as i think that the high harmonies don't work but no harmonies make it seem boring and non interactive for the audience. For this reason we have chosen to use the second mix.

Potential Album Covers

When presenting these images to the target audience they said that they liked the last image as the front of the album cover. However they disliked the personal touch of writing. Therefore, we would need to rethink this writing and possibly match it to the font that we are going to use on the website.

Fonts

These were all the fonts that we decided to test out by using then name Georgia May. We wanted to achieve a sense of her personality through the font. For this reason we chose the script one because we feel this represents her as the girl next door. We really like this font as we think it is very eye catching and will fit in with the artist appearance.

Album Cover Photos

We did a photoshoot for our album cover. Our aim for the photoshoot was to get photos that represent Georgia as being innocent yet edgy as this will relate to her being the 'girl next door'. For this purpose, we dressed her in normal day to day clothes as this fits in with our urban theme. We then used red lipstick in some of the photos to connote power and give her that edgy look that is needed for fans to pick up her album. We used inspiration from Jessie J, Ellie Goulding and Madonna. Firstly we started doing portrait photos as this is generic in most album covers. We then did some shots where Georgia was straddled on a chair which gives her an edgy look to her. We then did some shots of her at a table using her hands to create an interesting composition. Lastly we took shots of her outside against a brick wall which also gave it a more urban feel to the picture.

Lykke Li is a swedish indie pop singer is an inspiration to me for creating the album cover because her albums are in black and white. They aren't too busy and over the top instead very simplistic and to the point which i like. I like how her face peeps out the side of the first album cover below because this creates her being edgy and a bit mysterious which i can explore by positioning Georgia in various places. I also like the album cover as she does the silhouette layers that i have experimented with and i really like her album cover, however mine didn't look as good as she has one face in focus and the other two not which still shows her star quality and attracts her audience.
